Veteran's Day

Today the kids have a day off from school, and I have a day off from work in honor of military veterans. Today is also the 91st anniversary of the signing of the armistice agreement that ended the fighting of World War I. (The Treaty of Versailles that formally ended the war wasn’t signed for another seven months.)

The armistice was signed at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Known as Armistice Day, it became a legal holiday in 1938. Sixteen years later, in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower agreed to make Armistice Day a commemoration of all veterans and thus Veteran’s Day as we now know it was born.  Click HERE to see the official U.S. web site for Veteran’s Day.

This photo was taken just after the Armistice
was signed in this railcar.

Despite this day’s historic significance, it is still a Wednesday, and that means therapy! Yes, I just found out that therapists do not take off for Veteran’s Day.
